Ms Joey Leung, Assistant Director of Operations,
said, “It’s important we conduct full assessments even
for residents in perfect health when they move in, so we
can detect potential health issues, such as three-highs
and atrial fibrillation. Seniors with these issues are
relatively prone to stroke. However, if we intervene early
with preventive measures, we can reduce the probability
of a stroke. In another example, if the assessment shows
that a senior has weak arms and legs or has difficulty
maintaining balance, our analysis may suggest a higher
risk of falls. Our team will subsequently develop a training
program to improve his or her gait and balance.”
Furthermore, Ventria Residence utilises wearable device
technology in its Smart Fitness Centre. Personal trainers will
design an individualised program for each resident, and the
device will collect health and exercise data and upload to the
cloud system. The trainers can then track residents’ training
progress, increase program adherence and effectiveness.
MEMORY CARE FOR DEMENTIA RESIDENTS
Ventria Residence has two storeys of Memory Care
apartments, dedicated to residents showing signs of
dementia. Ms Marietta Lo, Director of Nursing, explained that
elements of reality orientation and multi-sensory therapy
are incorporated into the living environment to stimulate the
five senses of the residents. For instance, changing ceiling
lighting effects throughout the day, i.e. daylight, dusk and
night, to reduce time disorientation and confusion that are
generally common amongst seniors living with dementia.
The interior design of these storeys imitates Hong
Kong street scenes in the 70s and 80s. The familiar
decorative elements primarily aid wayfinding and help
stimulate the cognitive functions of the residents, thereby
reducing feelings of anxiety. Moreover, the nurse station
is installed with one-way mirrors to allow the team to
observe the seniors without them feeling monitored, so
that they can enjoy a safe yet dignified lifestyle.
Apart from medical and nursing care, Ventria Residence
understands that dining and recreational activities are
indispensable in a luxury retirement lifestyle. There are
high-end Chinese and Western restaurants as well as a
private room, offering five sumptuous meals a day to its
residents. The dietician of the medical team will also design
meal plans for residents with special dietary needs, such as
diabetic or low-sodium meals. In addition to various interest
classes, the residence also offers concierge services
ranging from making travel arrangements to booking
concert tickets. In a luxurious yet private environment filled
with friends and neighbours that share the same lifestyle,
the residents of Ventria Residence will definitely be able to
graciously retire in style and happily age in place.
